American Express Prepaid Card Review

American Express

Life is full of surprises – but no one needs to be surprised about is how much money they have in the bank.  It’s oh so easy to overspend and be charged huge fees as a consequence.  I use to live this way in college and it was miserable!  I would always have to call the bank to see how much I had in there and sometimes it didn’t report all transactions immediately.  At $30 a pop for overdraft fees I quickly learned how to better handle my money!  It’s important to budget and keep track of your money as you go.

I believe that teaching teens about money is a critical job parents have.  The amount of Americans in debt over their heads, the number of divorces caused from money problems, and the number of suicides driven by debt should have parents awake and committed to teaching their children how to properly handle money.  American Express has a new Prepaid Card that is a simple reloadable card that can be used to buy anything from clothes to cucumbers.  The card offers teens a practical way to spend and keep track of their money with no activation or monthly fees.  This card eliminates the worry of carrying around a lot of cash, avoids the dangerous credit cards, and keeps teens from overspending.

Other handy uses for the American Express Prepaid Card include using while traveling, for college students, or to give to a babysitter for when she takes your children out.  It’s easy to create and manage additional cards for others to use.

Free perks of the card:

  • Free to purchase online
  • Free activation
  • Free monthly maintenance
  • Free balance inquiries
  • Free alerts
  • Free card replacement

You can order a card absolutely free online and there’s no credit check to impact to your credit history.  The money you put on the card never expires.  If you lose the card it can be replaced hassle-free. You have full control of the card by using the online account tool.  Online you can load money, see transaction history, set alerts, and more!

One of my favorite things about this Prepaid Card is that you get Roadside Assistance, Purchase Protection and 24/7 Customer Service.  Who wouldn’t love that?

I think the thing I like best about the Prepaid Card is that not only can you can teach your teens about money and budgeting but you can let them try it for themselves…with a safety net underneath just in case!

5 Tips to Be a Better You

Be honest—have you ever driven by a jogger alongside the road and thought,Why do they want to do that? She is crazy!

I know several runners, half marathoners, full marathoners and even one triathlete—and they will be the first to tell you that, yes, maybe they are a little crazy.

You must be weird to run for three or four hours, right? Sometimes, you may be out there sweating at 5 a.m.  You may endure extreme heat or possibly rain. You might have to dodge drivers on the roads who won’t set their smart-phones down. You could find yourself fighting off bees or stray dogs, all while wearing spandex and a neon blinking vest.  These things are pretty common for serious runners.

Training to run a race isn’t something you do last minute. You have to make a plan and stick to it.  You need to be prepared for the aches and pains and ups and downs that will come.  You just need to remember that it will all be worth it when you cross that finish line.  You have to pace yourself and, literally, take one step at a time.  If you rush off the starting line too soon you are destined to fail.

Just the thought of running a marathon might make you tired (it does me!), but the truth is that physical endurance training isn’t that different from a maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  Both take work!  If you can make a plan to live healthier, you can make a plan to run a marathon.

Just about anyone can run a marathon. The training is all about discipline and commitment to change your lifestyle.  If you’ve ever worked your body into shape, then you know the kind of determination and commitment that is needed to follow through.

You can’t train inconsistently. You have to commit to doing the necessary steps. If you do the steps, you’ll succeed and have fun doing it. If you skip steps, you’ll struggle and hate the process and result.

Just like working toward a healthy lifestyle, training for an endurance race is something you have to take in small bites.  If you jump in thinking you’re going to get healthy overnight or run 10 miles on your first try, then you’ve got another thing coming.

In order to succeed you must start small with measurable goals and build upon them.  With training, start with something small like setting your alarm clock for 5:00 a.m. and get up and run for 30 minutes.  For healthy living, start small by taking vitamins twice daily.  Take half of your multivitamin in the morning and half in the evening.

Besides being similar in nature,  exercise and living a healthy life are both components of a well-rounded life.  If you run a few mile everyday but are skipping your vitamins and eating unhealthy foods, then you’re only working on part of the problem.  If you’re eating healthy but never get off the couch you are also missing the big picture.

Take that same sense of commitment and self-sacrifice you put toward _______ (you fill in the blank) and focus it on your health. Whether you train for a 5K (the only race I’ve ever ran), a triathlon, or you want to simply stay on your treadmill for twenty minutes, you’ve got what it takes to succeed.  Put in the time and the effort, and you’ll see results.

As a new mom, it’s easy for me to feel overwhelmed from constantly focusing on my baby.  In order to stay refreshed I need to do everything I can to stay healthy and alert.  Here are the tips that have helped me be a better me and hopefully they can help you be a better you!

Nature Made

Daily vitamins! This is #1 not only because it’s the first thing I do every day but also because I know how important it is for my overall health.  Follow this link to see a short video from Dr. Oz explaining the Critical Daily Vitamins all women should take.  I’ve even read that some studies show optimum nutrients can slow aging!  Who wouldn’t want that?  Vitamins give me increased energy which is something I could never have too much of!  Taking vitamins daily also makes me feel that I’m doing something good for my body and in turn good for my family.  Nature Made vitamins are made with the best ingredients and they are affordable for any budget.  Even though it may seem like a good idea to save a little money by skipping out on vitamins, the cost to your health could be very expensive.

– Drink water! Make time to drink a big glass of water every morning.  This is easy to do if you combine it with the first tip, take your vitamins.  I’m told that we lose a lot of oxygen through the night and to rejuvenate our cells, we need to supply them with water and oxygen.  Drink a glass of water every morning and within a week you’ll begin to feel less tired.

– Get sleep! Yes, everyone knows this but it’s oh so important to actually do it!  Insufficient sleep can make you forget your vitamins, make you too tired for exercise, make you crave junk food and make you, well, grouchy.  Your body and your mind both need that precious rest.  If you have trouble going to bed at a decent hour a good tip is to set an alarm on your phone to remind you it’s time for bed.

– Eat healthy! Healthy eating requires replacing junk food for nutritious food.  You won’t stick to a diet that only removes the bad food from your diet.  You have to add healthy, delicious food into your diet to remain satisfied.  Make it a goal to include plenty of colorful vegetables, fruit, whole grains and other high fiber foods in your daily diet and eliminating refined high glycemic foods.

– Be positive! I believe with all my heart that it is our attitude that is the driving force of healthy living.  According to Abe Lincoln, “Most people are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”  So make up your mind to be happy and healthy today!

Motherhood is a joy, and so is womanhood. Embrace them both.  Remember, it takes discipline, creativity and sacrifice to win in all areas of life.

Coffee-mate Natural Bliss Review and Giveaway

Coffee-mate Natural Bliss

I love coffee and tea.  I don’t take the time to make it every day so it’s a treat for me when I get to enjoy a cup!  I was recently given the opportunity from Mom Central to review Coffee-mate’s new Natural Bliss Creamers and I jumped at the chance.

The Natural Bliss Creamers come in three natural, yummy flavors!  You can choose from Vanilla, Sweat Cream, and Caramel.  I tried them all and let me tell you they are wonderful!  Vanilla was my favorite, followed closely by Caramel, and lastly Sweet Cream.  Sweet Cream was a subtly sweet substitute for milk but I’m just partial to the sweeter flavors.  Don’t get me wrong though, Vanilla and Caramel are sweet but not overly sweet.  They are smooth, creamy, and leave a yummy taste in your mouth.  I may start drinking coffee in the morning and tea in the evening.  I love my Red Rose tea and my Keurig cups dearly.  It would be nice to take a few minutes for myself and relax each day so I think I’ll do it!

Coffee-mate is giving away a free Natural Bliss Creamer of your choice to one lucky Embracing Beauty reader.

How to enter:

Leave me a comment letting me know which flavor you most look forward to trying.  It’s that simple!

The giveaway will end Aug. 30th at 3:00pm EST.  The winner will be chosen via Random.org.

Family Movie: Field of Vision on NBC 6/11

Field of Vision

My thoughts:

I had the opportunity to get an early preview of the new family-friendly movie,  Field of Vision and I loved it!  I don’t know about you but I think it’s hard to find a movie that is suitable for the whole family and is actually enjoyable.  This movie is fun, has a great storyline and it carries an important message.  The movie focuses on bullying and standing up for people who are the victim of bullying.  Bullies will never disappear all together but I believe when kids and adults take a stand together against bullying it will be a less frequent occurrence.

Be sure to catch the newest P&G and Wal-Mart Family Movie Night collaboration Field of Vision premieres June 11th at 8/7c on NBC!

Check out the Family Movie Night Facebook page to stay on top of the new and upcoming movies.

Watch the Trailer:

Synopsis (from their website):

Through mysterious footage captured on an old malfunctioning video camera, Sinclair High School’s star quarterback, Tyler McFarland, learns that some of his teammates have been bullying Cory Walker, a troubled new transfer student. Aware that sharing this information with the coach might get his friends kicked off the team and ultimately cost the school the state championship, Tyler must choose what’s more important: winning or doing what’s right.

As these events unfold, the camera also reveals more surprising footage to Tyler’s kid sister Lucy. She learns that Cory has a secret past, unknown even to him. Now Lucy must convince her mom (Faith Ford, Murphy Brown) and family that the camera’s revealing insight is not a product of her imagination as she enlists their help to find the answers Cory so desperately needs. It’s a compelling and intriguing story that shows both the challenges and rewards of doing the right thing even when it’s tough to do.

Lipton 100% Natural Iced Tea Review

Lipton Iced Tea Logo

Do you love iced tea on a summer day?  I know many people that do but if you could take it or leave it you might want to give Lipton’s NEW 100% natural iced teas a try!  Lipton was nice enough to give our family a sampling of their newest 100% natural flavors and we loved them.  Beginning last month you should have began to see these new flavors popping up on shelves and now they should be widely available.  The new flavors include Green Tea with Passionfruit Mango and Iced Tea with Blueberry Pomegranate.  The line also features preservative-free varieties including Diet Green Tea with Citrus and the newest Lipton flavor, Diet Green Tea with Watermelon.  These diet products are free of artificial colors and flavors.

Lipton Iced Tea

My favorite is the Diet Green Tea with Citrus because it doesn’t have a strong taste and it’s refreshing.  My husband drinks iced tea every time it’s available and from his taste test he thought the Blueberry Pomegranate won by a landslide.  He doesn’t normally care for store bought iced tea but these new flavors from Lipton have changed his mind!  He loves the new flavors and there is no way I can make passion-fruit mango tea at home.  Okay, so there may be a way but since Lipton has already perfected the taste, I’ll leave it to them!   He also wanted me to include that he thought the shape of the new bottles were cool.  He kept each one and refilled it with water for a few days before recycling it.

For our family iced tea is a great alternative to soda in the summer and when you add in an all-natural ingredients list made with real sugar, iced tea looks that much more appealing!

Lipton also sent us a handful of different drink recipes to try using Lipton’s new tea flavors.  While I’ll be sure to leave out the optional alcohol recommendations I do plan on giving a few of these a try.  Watermelon-lime mint punch sounds like a winner to me!  It takes 2 sprigs of fresh mint, 2 bottles of Lipton’s 100% Natural Diet Green Tea with Watermelon, and 1/4 cup of lime juice.  Crush mint with wooden spoon on side of pitcher and add in remaining ingredients.  Let stand 30 minutes and then remove the mint.  Chill until ready to serve.  Garnish with additional mint and lime if desired.  Serves 5.

Lipton has recently partnered with Pandora.com to encourage listeners to experience the natural side of music.  To celebrate the new line, Lipton will be treating tea drinkers to summer programming that will allow them to experience music in an unplugged natural way.  “The Natural Side of Music” will include a surprise summer kick-off concert with a major unannounced artist, online videos featuring cuts and conversations with music artists, and more.  For more information check out Lipton’s Facebook page for all the details.  I love Pandora and Lipton so I’m excited to see what they have in store for us this summer!

Pedigree Ambassador Final Update

Six weeks ago as part oPedigree Ambassador Badgef the Pedigree Ambassador program, we switched our black lab mix, Lucy, over to Pedigree dog food.  Pedigree asked me to use the four universal needs (skin & coat, oral care, digestion, & immunity) to review how Lucy was handling the switch.  I honestly haven’t noticed much of a change.  Her stool was a bit runnier at my last update but that seems to over and is now back to normal.  I think that was due to the change in dog food and not the new dog food itself.  Lucy had a great coat before and that has remained…I think the secret is in the boiled egg we give her daily.  Lucy’s teeth are the same as before, not sparking but not filthy.  Our vet recommends that a dog of Lucy’s age should have her teeth cleaned once a year and we’re coming up on a cleaning.  Maybe after the cleaning we can see if it prevents build up better than our old dog food.  Her digestion and immunity were great before the switch and have remained the same.

We have decided to continue feeding Lucy the Pedigree food for the time being because it seems to work well for her and it is much cheaper than the dog food we were using previously.  After participating in this trial I would recommend Pedigree to all my friends and family.  If you’re thinking of giving Pedigree a try don’t forget to print Pedigree coupons to make this dog food even more affordable!

In celebration of Pedigree’s new dry dog food formula they will be donating more than 100,000 lbs of food to shelters across the country.  They believe that “Every Dog Deserves” leading nutrition.  Chelsea Kane, from Dancing with the Stars, will be helping kick off the “Every Dog Deserves” campaign by delivering the first 10,000 lb food donation to the Amanda Foundation in Beverly Hills on June 1.

Throughout the month of June, Pedigree will be asking dog lovers across America to help them help their furry friends by logging onto Facebook and Twitter (#everydogdeserves) and to say why they think “Every Dog Deserves” the very best.  For each Like, comment, @reply, re-tweet, photo upload, etc. directed at Pedigree, they’ll donate one pound of food (up to 100,000 pounds).  Each single enteraction you have with Pedigree on Facebook and Twitter will help feed needy dogs.  This is a great (& free!) way to give that only takes a few minutes of your time.  I hope you’ll join me in supporting the “Every Dog Deserves” program starting in June!

Pedigree Ambassador Update

Lucy Pup

While I try not to go on and on about my family here there is one family member that gets left out more than any other and that is our loveable dog Lucy.  She’s a rescued lab mix who weighs about 45 lbs and thinks she’s a lap dog.  You may remember that she was chosen to be a Pedigree Ambassador and I’m here to update you on how the dog food trial is going.

A few weeks ago Lucy started transitioning to Pedigree’s new recipe of dog food from her current brand.  We spent the first week gradually transitioning her diet by replacing 1/4 of her regular food with Pedigree and then half and half and so on until she was solely on Pedigree food.Pedigree Ambassador Badge

She has never been a big eater but she seems to like the Pedigree food as much as her old food.  She likes the bigger, softer pieces more than the rest because she’ll dig and eat those first.  Overall, I think she is very pleased with the food.

The transition went smoothly although I did notice her stool was a little runny and she was a bit gassier than normal.  I feel that this is caused by the change in dog food and not necessarily the dog food itself.  I haven’t noticed any changes in her teeth yet but her coat seems softer (or maybe that’s from all the rain we’ve had lately?).  I’m going to continue to feed her the Pedigree food and will report back soon with any updates.  In the mean time, you can follow @PedigreeUS on Twitter or check out the Pedigree Adoption Drive Facebook page.

Lucy is a Pedigree Ambassador

Pedigree Ambassador Badge

I have been invited to participate in Pedigree’s Ambassador dog food trial hosted by Mom Central.  For the next six weeks, my darling Lucy will be transitioning to the a recipe of Pedigree.

When choosing a dog brand for Lucy we trusted what our friends told us.  They searched for a brand that was high on nutrition and low on fillers.  Once they had chosen a brand and it worked well for their dogs we soon followed after and gave that to Lucy.  It’s a bit expensive, few stores carry it, and because there aren’t a lot of preservatives in it so it has a short shelf life.  It would be nice to find a cheaper but good quality dog food.

I was sent a few questions to assess my Lucy’s health.  Here are the questions:

This is my smiling Lucy!

Skin & Coat (dull and flaky, average, shiny and soft)

Lucy is 10 years old and has a gorgeous shiny coat.  Every time I take her to PetSmart the workers ask me what I bathe her in and I tell

them my secret, we feed her a hard boiled egg every evening with her dog food.

Oral Care (dirty, average, pearly white)

Because Lucy is getting up there in age our vet recommends having her teeth cleaned every year.  They get a little dirty between cleanings but not filthy so I would say average.

Digestion (number of stools per day and quality)

Lucy loves routine in every aspect of life and this is no different.  She goes regularly at the same time everyday…and in the same section of yard each time. : )  She’s a creature of habit for sure!  Thankfully Lucy doesn’t have digestion problems often.  Occasionally her stomach will rumble and she’ll go outside and eat a little grass and be fine shortly after.  I always thought eating grass was to make a dog throw up but she never does.

Immunity (how often does your pup get sick?)

Besides the occasional upset tummy I don’t think Lucy has ever been sick.

Our Pedigree dog food arrived a little over a week ago and I really liked the fact that it was near in size to our current dog food.

We’re slowly adding more and more Pedigree to our current dog food but right now we’re only up to 25% Pedigree/ 75% other dog food.

We are only a few days into the transition but there seems to be no change in appetite, which is great!

I’ve always heard good things about the Pedigree brand so I would probably recommend them to anyone who sought my opinion.  In a few more weeks I’ll have a better idea if I can whole heartedly stand behind the brand or if my positive opinion will change…I’ll keep you posted.  In the mean time, you can follow @PedigreeUS on Twitter and be sure to take a moment and check out the Pedigree Adoption Drive Facebook page.

Clorox ToiletWand Review & Giveaway

While I love a clean home I don’t always like cleaning.  I go through phases where I want the kitchen sink spotless or the floors vacuumed daily but that’s not the norm.  In order to avoid a heavy spring cleaning I try to keep up with cleaning year round…try being the key word.  I’m a huge fan of FlyLady and her cleaning zone method!  She recommends breaking up your house into zones where you’ll focus on a new zone each week and spend 15 minutes a day on that zone and an additional 15 minutes decluttering.  I love to break up cleaning into small chunks of time.  I find it much easier to do any task for 15 minutes a few times each day instead of spending a few hours once a week.

My tips for spring cleaning:

  • Set a timer
  • Play upbeat music
  • Declutter first

Cleaning toilets isn’t just a spring cleaning task but one that should take place regularly.  Let’s face it, cleaning a toilet isn’t something anyone enjoys!  Clorox and Mom Central gave me a ToiletWand to review in hopes that it would make my cleaning a bit easier and I want to tell you about my experience with it.

My ToiletWand cleaning kit included a ToiletWand handle, six refills, and a storage container.

How Clorox ToiletWand works:

Put the ToiletWand handle into the storage container and snap on a refill.  Dip the want into the toilet water and clean like usual.  Once finished carry the wand over the trashcan and press the release button to drop the refill into the trash.

Pros:

  • It’s attractive enough to leave in your bathroom.
  • Cleaning solution is built in.
  • It cleans well.

Clorox ToiletWand

Cons:

  • One time use only, expensive for homes with multiple bathrooms.
  • Difficult to snap in refill without picking up and putting on by hand.

My recommendations would be for Clorox to remake the bottom of the storage container with a non-skid base and a narrower storage area that way it would be easier to attach each refill.  I tried to reuse the disposable refill in another bathroom but there wasn’t enough solution left.  I know it wasn’t meant to be used more than once but with three toilets in our home the cost of these could quickly add up.

In summary, I recommend the Clorox ToiletWand for families with only one bathroom and who would like the convenience of only storing one item instead of two (standard toilet cleaner and toilet wand).

The Starter Kit retails for $10.00 and the refills for about $5.00.  Clorox is offering our readers a $3 printable coupon here: http://bricks.coupons.com/Bstart.asp?o=84354&c=CL&p=sqpfkzZP

One Embracing Beauty winner will receive a Clorox Bathroom Essentials ToiletWand prize pack including a ToiletWand, bathroom rug, toilet decal, and toilet paper holder.

To enter fill out this form and tell us one spring cleaning tip you have!

I’ll draw the winner via random.org on April 20th.  The winner will have 48 hrs to respond before a new winner is chosen.  This giveaway is open to U.S. and Canada only.  Good luck everyone!

FiberChoice Printable Coupon and Review

I’ll be the first to admit that my diet isn’t ideal but I have been doing a lot better since I’ve became pregnant.  I’ve been buying a ton of fresh fruits and vegetables to get those important nutrients my body and baby need.Fiber Choice

I heard on Dr.Oz today that to get your recommended daily fiber you have to eat 6 apples, that’s right 6!  I try to get as many products as I can with added fiber but I still feel like I’m falling short.  According to The American Dietetic Association, women need 25-30 grams of fiber each day.  I don’t know about you but I feel like I get around 15 grams on a daily basis.  Fiber not only helps in keeping us regular but also aids in weight control!

When I mentioned to my husband that I would be getting a coupon for FiberChoice chewable supplements he was a lot more excited than I expected.  He knows the importance of fiber and he was glad to have a chewable pill to help add fiber to his diet.  The recommended daily dose is two tablets and each chewable tab has two grams of fiber.  I also want to point out that the main ingredient in FiberChoice is inulin, which is the same fiber that is naturally found in fruits and vegetables! Inulin is prebiotic, which means it helps nourish the good bacteria (the probiotics) in my digestive tract.

Does FiberChoice supplements sound right for you and your family?   If  so, go to FiberChoice and register and you’ll be able to get a FiberChoice printable coupon to save $2 on your next purchase!

More about purchasing FiberChoice:

  • FiberChoice® is available in four formulas: FiberChoice® original formula; FiberChoice® Weight Management; FiberChoice® Plus Calcium, and FiberChoice® Plus Antioxidants.

  • FiberChoice® flavor varieties include orange, pomegranate, assorted berries, strawberry, sugar-free orange medley, and sugar-free assorted fruit (green apple, grape and strawberry).

  • FiberChoice® is available in 10, 90 and 220-count bottles, ranging in price from $2.49 to $19.99.

My husband chose the FiberChoice Weight Management supplements. They’re sugar-free and have a yummy strawberry flavor!   The supplements also contain green tea, to help curb his appetite.  My husband isn’t looking to lose weight (he better not while I’m pregnant!), but he wanted the FiberChoice tablets that would help him remain at his current weight.

Not only does FiberChoice offer supplements to help boost your fiber intake but when you follow them on FiberChoice on Twitter you can get more tips for easily adding fiber to your diet.
