Pull-Ups First Flush Party!

Huggies Pull Ups Logo

As you know, I’ve been working on potty training my little sweetheart and we’re making progress.  Small baby steps.  Pull-Ups knows that parents often dread potty training and procrastinate starting the process.  They are seeking to make the process easy and fun by helping Moms through Potty Training Parties.

Pull-Ups

They provided me with the basic supplies for a great Pull-Ups party!  They gave us potty training progress charts, stickers, party hats, and party noisemakers.  Oh, and of course Pull-Ups…which we used as prizes for the games.  Super fun!   They even had the perfect gift to give the moms and dads – Pull-Ups coupons!

Pull-Ups Party Hat

My little sweetheart didn’t like her hat…in combination with everything else going on.  After we removed it, she calmed back down and enjoyed the fun.  She couldn’t quite get the hang of the noise blower but she enjoyed watching everyone else play with them.

Pull-Ups Coloring

We had “First Flush Celebration” color sheets for the kiddos to play with and I couldn’t believe my little girl’s sheet.  I’ve never tried to teach her to color in the lines because I figured she was too young but look closely, she did it on her own!  Of course, she scribbled all over the rest of the paper but she colored inside of two shapes without going outside.  I am proud!

Minnie Mouse Pull-Ups

These new Pull-Ups are ridiculously adorable. I’m talking serious cuteness!  You know I have a small, or maybe medium-sized obsession with Minnie Mouse?  Well, these diapers feature Minnie Mouse in the cutest way possible.  Because I don’t want to show you a picture of my kid’s bum, take a look at the back of the diaper package to see for yourself.  Super duper cute, right?  Well, not only are these Pull-Ups fashionable but they also have a neat feature.  The images disappear when they become wet {called Learning Design Pull-Ups}!  What a great extra method to help kids remember to go to the potty.  Pull-Ups also has a heavy overnight version and Pull-ups that get cool when they’re wet.  What will they think of next?

Pull-Ups Pants

Potty training is HARD work because each kid is different and as Huggies says, “Because no two kids train alike!”  What worked for one kid might not work for your next and what works for your best friend’s kids might not work for either of yours.  These differences make it ever so important for moms to communicate with each other about what worked and didn’t work for them.  That way, instead of beating your head against the wall when one technique doesn’t work you can just try another one.  Plus, Huggies has an awesome Pull-Ups Big Kid app to help those kiddos who are just starting or in the process of potty training!  The Big Kid App is packed full of tips, tools, games and more to help us celebrate every milestone with our Big Kids.  If you have a potty training tot you might want to download the app for your little one.

Don’t forget to also check out these sites for the latest Pull-Ups info:

When you visit Pull-Ups Facebook page, you’ll see a great sweepstakes they’re currently running.  I’m pretty excited about it!!!  You can enter to win a trip to the most magical family getaway destination on Earth!  Can you guess where that is? : )  Good luck!

Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Pull-Ups. I received product samples to facilitate my review and to host a party. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Winter Blues – Nail Polish Trend

Winter Blues

Here are the perfect hues to wipe away those winter blues!  That’s a pretty catchy phrase, huh?  I made that up myself; feel free to quote me.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a fan of blue nail polish.  To me it’s always been too bold and even a little child-like.  However these new richer blue shades have won me over.  Aren’t they elegant?  You can choose any shade from a deep cornflower to a midnight blue and still being in style this season.  Just be careful to not use this bold trend if your nails are too long because you don’t want to veer into tacky territory.

If you’re interested in any of the polishes above you can buy them at these locations:

Please note that these prices could change at any time; this is just what they are listed at today when I wrote the post.

Blue Heart Nail Art – For Valentine’s Day!

Blue Heart Nail Art

I wanted to do a little nail art for Valentine’s Day but I didn’t want it to be too girly.  I know that everyone doesn’t live in the pink, frilly, lacy, sparkly world that I do.  These nails have a beautiful subdued blue polish with a small shimmery heart — It’s like a mini Valentine to yourself!

I applied Julep Nail Polish in Julianne and painted the heart off to the side with Revlon in Silver Dollar.  I’m sure you could recreate this look using any polish in your stash and it would look just as good.  I love how the heart isn’t perfectly even; I think it adds to the charm and makes this nail art less intimidating to copy.

Would you do an easy heart manicure like this?  If so, what colors do you think you’d use?

Groundhog Day Cupcakes

Groundhog Day Cupcakes

Here are the Groundhog Day Cupcakes I made for a little get-together I’m going to tonight.  I took simple chocolate cupcakes, covered them with green sprinkles, and added one chocolate Teddy Graham to each.  This was a simple and fun treat to make!

I chose the chocolate Teddy Grahams but you could choose the original which is a very light tan or the cinnamon which is a medium brown.  I recommend making sure your store has green sprinkles unless you want to be like me and very carefully pick the green ones out of a multicolored pack.  {I don’t recommend this!}  If your store doesn’t have green sprinkles you could always opt for green icing instead of chocolate.

Be aware that Teddy Grahams come in two different shapes, with arms up {pictured} and with their arms to their side.  I tried them both but quickly noticed the one with it’s arms down looked like a sad teddy bear trying to escape being buried alive.  Not a good kid-friendly image.  The arms up bear is much happier in my opinion.

You are probably saying to yourself, “a bear is not a ground hog.”  Yes, you would be right.  Teddy Grahams are bears but that’s pretty close to a groundhog in looks, right?  Close enough for kids anyway!  I hope you’ve enjoyed my simple Groundhog’s Day Cupcakes and will give them a try yourself.  If you do, I would love to see your pictures or a link to them on your blog.

If you like these cupcakes you may be interested in the ones I made for my daughter’s Pink Lemonade Birthday Party.

Happy Groundhog’s Day everyone!!!

E-cigarette Reviews – Do they work?

I don’t usually post about such “hot topic” issues as this but it seems that I’m hearing more and more about people trying to quit smoking.  That is probably due to new years resolutions but I’m sure the economy doesn’t help either. E-cigarettes, do they work?

Over the past couple of years electronic cigarettes have been gaining popularity among people looking to quit smoking.  These products haven’t came without heavy controversy though.  I’ve been in the presence of a few different friends discussing the use of them lately so I was curious and wanted to do some research of my own.

I’ve found that some electronic cigarettes contain tobacco and some don’t.  Some may have potential risks and safety concerns and some don’t.  I still don’t know everything there is to know {far from it really!} but I found a website that has a ton of helpful electronic cigarette reviews, ecigarettes365.com.  To make an educated decision on electronic cigarettes you can check out their site and quickly compare more than 50 different e-cigarette brands and benefit from over 1,900 electronic cigarette reviews & ratings.  They even have a thorough review of the blu cig brand which I’ve heard is gaining a lot of popularity lately.  I’m not telling you what to do but if you’re looking to quit smoking, I wouldn’t pass up electronic cigarettes without first taking a close look at them.

Tobacco use still remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US but still more than 45 MILLION Americans smoke cigarettes.  I read that, as of 2010, there were also 13.2 million cigar smokers in the US, and 2.2 million who smoke tobacco in pipes.  That’s a lot of tobacco!

Do you or a loved one need to get serious about kicking this habit?  If you choose an electronic cigarette that doesn’t have health and safety problems, think of how great that would be.  You won’t be exposing yourself or anyone around you to any of the unhealthy components found in traditional cigarettes, such as carbon monoxide, carcinogens, tobacco, tar or ash.  Bleh!  Plus, I’m assuming that e-cigarettes would be cheaper…although don’t quote me on that!  Think how great it would be to say goodbye to yellow teeth, bad breath, and potentially smoking all together.

My dad chewed snuff when I was younger.  Ugh, the thought of that still grosses me out to this day.  When the dentist told him he had better quit or he was going to lose his teeth, he listened.  He tried to quit cold turkey but that didn’t work.  Instead he used a substitute chew to take it’s place as he slowly weaned himself off it.  Sometimes habits are hard to break.  Who am I kidding?  All habits are hard to break, aren’t they?

I am NOT sharing this post to sound better than anyone or to tell anyone what to do.  I’ve just had quite a few friends discussing this lately and after I’ve done my research I’ve found that some of their information wasn’t correct.  All I’m saying is that if you’re looking to quit smoking, this might be a good option for you.  I hope you can see my heart in this.  I think the world of you guys!

Letter to My Daughter

My daughter

To my dear, beautiful, sweet daughter,

You are the happiest, most amazing, gorgeous little girl.  Today, your Mommy is not having a good day. I woke up tired and it’s only gone downhill from there. Today is one of those days when it’s hard being a Mommy.  I’m trying my best but it’s difficult.    It’s especially hard because you are so precious and I feel like I’m letting you down.  Today, I’m not the Mommy you deserve.

I know that in the long run it’s okay.  Some days will be filled with fun, educational play and some days we’ll settle for blocks and a little cuddling on the couch watching Sesame Street.  I hope you’ll remember the afternoons where we cooked french fries in your kitchen, read books, and had a ball practicing our fake sneezes.  I hope you’ll remember knocking down my block castles, rocking your baby doll to sleep, and dancing like lunatics in the living room.

I also hope that I remember days like these.  In 20 or so years when it’s  your turn to love and care for a toddler I hope that I remember what a hard day is like, how lonely this parenting gig can be, and how cabin fever can mess with your head.

I hope that in remembering I’ll make up for the sluggish days like today by comforting, loving, and championing you; by letting you know that I think you’re a wonderful woman and mother.  I know you will be!  Please know that I will always be your Mommy and I will always be here for you!

You and your Daddy are the best things that have ever happened to me.  I’ll love you always.

Mom
