Vanessa Williams’ Skincare Revitalistic

Vanessa Williams Revitalistic Skincare

I was first given the opportunity to review Vanessa William’s Revitalistic SkinCare set two months ago.  I spent over a month reviewing each of the products because I want to thoroughly review a product before promoting it.  After one week of trying the products, I knew I would love them.  By the end of the month, I was already placing orders for a few of the items with my own money.  This is a great set!

To begin with I was a little skeptical because anytime a celebrity puts their name on something I’m extra critical.  I don’t really know why but that’s how my mind works.  Also, I knew that just because Vanessa Williams is amazingly beautiful that these products aren’t what made her that way and they weren’t going to turn me into the next super model.  I was realistic and even a bit negative to begin with.  These products had to be really tremendous to change my mind and they did!

Vanessa Williams Eye Serum

1.) RE-FOCUS Firming Eye Cream

This is an extremely light-weight, almost runny eye cream.  You can wear it day and night without having to worry about putting too much product on and having your make up cake up.  While I liked that about it I wanted a little something more substantial at night.  I guess I’m just used to the thicker creams.  At night I would follow my skin care regimen as normal, pat the eye cream on, and then dab a little Vaseline over top of it to seal it in for the night.  In the morning my eyes would feel so hydrated.  I loved it!

2.) RE-QUENCH Anti-Age Defense

This is a great product!  I feel bad that I don’t have a picture to show you the texture but the truth is I used it all. I did.  I loved it and it’s definitely one of the products I’ll keep buying.  It’s lightweight but not too light and it moisturized wonderfully.

Vanessa Williams Neck and Decollete Cream

3.) RE-CONTOUR Neck & Decollete Cream

I love a great decollete cream!  I usually use my regular moisturizer over my neck but I use a specialized cream for the area just below my neck, along my collar bone.  This is a thicker cream that feels great on.  I recommend it to everyone because no one wants to have a pretty face and a wrinkly neck.

Vanessa Williams Skincare Skin Serum

4.) RE-START Skin Serum

I have a love/hate relationship with this product.  Serums are great concentrated products that deliver a lot of bang for your buck however, I’ve never seen a serum quite like this before!  It’s a very greasy feeling product which I didn’t enjoy but by the time it was rubbed it into my skin it wasn’t greasy anymore.  It’s like magic!  All in all, I like this product and would probably buy again.

Vanessa Williams Skin Perfecting Peel

5.) PERFEXTURE Triple Enzyme Skin Perfecting Peel

Last but not least, we have PERFEXTURE, the set’s peel.  THIS. IS. AMAZING!  It’s truly a wonderful product.  The directions say to leave it on for three minutes and then wash it off.  I put it on while in the shower because I wanted a way to wash all the little granules off thoroughly without getting any in my eyes and without overflowing the bathroom sink with water.  I may have left it on a little longer than three minutes but when I washed it off my skin felt brand new.  It sloughs off the old dead skin on top leaving smooth skin underneath.  Once I dried off I applied the other products on top to seal in the moisture and keep my skin feeling soft.  I will be stocking up on this product, there’s no doubt about it!

Restoring Your Skin, Hair, and Nails After Chemotherapy

Restoring your skin, hair, & nails after chemotherapy

Today I got a note from one of our readers named Wendy.  She said,

“I have breast cancer and I just got done with chemo, I was just hoping you could help me with some products that I could use for my skin and nails. Thank you!”

Wendy,

I have a good friend who is now half way through her treatments for breast cancer and it just breaks my heart.  It’s a shame that anyone has to go through this.  I have to say that seeing her strength, courage, and dependence on the Lord through this time is an encouragement to me.  Congratulations on staying strong and finishing chemo!!!  We all know that isn’t an easy accomplishment.  Thank you for writing and I’ll do my best to answer your question.

God Bless,

Ashley

Chemo can wreck havoc on your skin, hair, and nails but there are a few things you can do to help take care of yourself before, during, or after chemo.

  • Avoid long, hot showers that dry out your skin.
  • Drink a lot of water.
  • Use creams instead of lotions.  Apply right after you shower and before bed.  Reapply cream each time after you wash your hands.
  • Massage cream into your nails and nail beds to help promote healthy cuticles and regrowth.
  • Wear gloves when you wash the dishes or are around other chemicals to avoid an infection.
  • Use an oily polish remover to avoid drying out your nails even further.
  • Avoid hand creams with alpha hydroxy or beta hydroxy acids.
  • Push back cuticles rather than cutting them.
  • If you notice an infection around your nails consult with your doctor who could give you a few different prescription options.
  • For dry brittle nails, use Nailtiques Formula 2 Plus. It goes on like a polish but it’s a nail protein.  It helps smooth ridges, stop splitting, strengthens nails and helps them grow.  You can use it daily until you get the results you want and then once a week.  It’s expensive but I personally swear by this stuff!  {I’ve also heard that Nail Envy by OPI works well.  It’s even more costly though!}
  • Because your immune system is likely to be compromised by treatment, try to avoid any injury to the nails or cuticles that might lead to infection. If you must have your nails done professionally you should make your manicurist aware of this.
  • Ask your doctor first and if allowed try taking a prenatal vitamin.  They are known to do wonders for hair and nails.
  • Eat a well-balanced diet and make sure you’re getting plenty of protein and iron.
  • If your skin is very dry, use an ammonium lactate cream to help increase moisture retention. These creams are available over-the-counter as well as by prescription.
  • Some chemotherapy drugs make skin more susceptible to sunburn. Use a sunblock with at least an SPF 30 and choose one that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
  • Use gentle fragrance-free soaps and laundry detergent.

15 Beauty Uses for Vaseline

15 Beauty Uses for Vaseline

Vaseline is a wonderful product, wouldn’t you agree?  It’s probably the most inexpensive and versatile products out there.  Right up there with the many uses of baking soda!  You might be surprised of all of the things Vaseline can do.  Here’s a list of my favorite 15 uses for Vaseline.

1. It softens dry and cracked elbows.

2.  Rub a little over your perfume places {behind the ear, neck, wrist, etc.} to keep your scent lasting longer.

3. Massage it into your cuticles every night before bed to keep your cuticles soft.

4. For kissably soft lips add a little Vaseline over your favorite lipstick.  You can also mix Vaseline with a drink mix, such as Kool-Aid powder, to make a colored and flavored lip gloss.

5. To avoid spray on tan streaks or dark spots rub Vaseline all over your knees, ankles and hands {any dry spot} to achieve a beautiful no-bake tan.

6. To prevent lipstick smudges just spread a little Vaseline over your teeth and lipstick smudges won’t be a problem!  As a side effect, you’ll also smile a lot more. : )  This is a tip used by beauty pageants contestants and cheerleaders.

7. To tame wild eyebrows, add a little to Vaseline your brows with a clean mascara wand or a clean toothbrush.

8. If you have a bottle that is always difficult to open make it a easier next time by rubbing a little Vaseline along the edges of the bottle under the cap.  This is fantastic on nail polish bottles!

9. In need of a quick shoe shine?  Swipe a little Vaseline over on your shoes and buff gently for a beautiful shine!

10. Vaseline is wonderful for soothing and smoothing skin after shaving.

11. After you carve your Halloween pumpkin, rub Vaseline on the exposed edges to keep your pumpkin from going dry and rotting. {You can see the results of this put to the test in our how to keep a pumpkin from rotting post.  Maybe add it on after the #1 tip?}

12. If you have very sensitive skin, Vaseline will make a perfect make up remover for you. Plus, you’ll have super soft skin the next day!

13. Mix sea salt {or sugar}, Vaseline and a drop or too of your favorite essential oil for an incredible exfoliating scrub.

14. If you have dry hair with split ends add the tiniest amount to the ends of your hair to cover them up until your next haircut.

15. Last but not least… Apply some under your eye shadow for a dramatic glossy effect.
