Baby and New Mom

Even though I haven’t talked about him much many of you probably know that a few months ago I added a new member to my family.  Boy, how the time flies!  It seems just like yesterday we had our newborn family photos taken.

New Baby

I remember that week well.  I was exhausted, so proud of my baby boy, and overwhelmingly thankful my in-laws were able to drop everything and come down to help us.  My parents were planning on staying the first week at home with us and my in-laws the second but my parents’ plans changed quickly due to unforeseen events.

During the end of their visit I was setting on the couch talking to my mother-in-law and all of a sudden I couldn’t see out of one eye.  Nothing, nada.  I saw bright colors flashing and jumping about but nothing that was really there.  After about ten minutes, my eyesight began to return and soon all I had remaining was a bright spot right in the middle of my vision.  It looked just like the spots you see after a camera’s flash.  They didn’t go away though.  Everywhere I looked they were there.  This made reading and focusing on someone’s face very difficult.

I made an appointment that day with the hospital dept. that took care of my epidural.  After a quick interview I was sent to a neurologist, which then sent me for an MRI {which was surprisingly relaxing!}, extensive tests at the eye doctor, and finally to the pharmacy.  It was a long day but such a fun day alone with my husband.  Having lunch out and leisurely walking around shops in between appointments made it feel like a date. {Which makes me think we need to hire a sitter more often!}

Come to find out everything was okay and it was just my hormones out of whack.  Along with my Rx for vision issues/headaches, I was told to drink at least one pop {soda, coke, what have you} a day.  Since I abstained from drinking soda while pregnant {because I felt I took enough risks taking my meds for hypersomnia while pregnant} I was glad to drink some again!!  It wasn’t too long though that I began to worry about all those extra calories I was consuming.

Sunkist TEN

I needed caffeine but not calories.  It was then that I remembered a refreshing orange drink that I love so much!  Sunkist TEN has all of the flavor {full flavor as their ads say!} with only ten calories.  TEN!  That’s the amount calories found in a breath mint.  Sunkist TEN has something like 90% less calories than regular soda {Don’t quote me though because I’m still a bit sleep deprived.  Just trust me that it’s a lot less!}

TEN Sodas

Have you tried any of the TEN sodas?  They include 7-up TEN, Sunkist TEN {yummy!}, Canada Dry TEN & A&W TEN and are available at Walmart.  It’s a great way to have full flavor without sacrificing your dreams of a swimsuit-ready body.

Sunkist Family

We’re a Sunkist TEN family!  Corny?  Totally, but I thought it was fun!  For those wondering, my daughter doesn’t drink soda right now.  It was just a little silly photoshop work from our Mister Roger’s Halloween costume.

Want to try it?  Right now there is a coupon to save $0.50 off a purchase of TWO 2 Liter bottles or TWO 4-pack cans of 7UP TEN, A&W TEN, Canada Dry TEN, RC TEN or Sunkist TEN soda.  {However, if you were to share that digital coupon via email, FB, Twitter (there is a click to share function) you will get brought to a coupon that will get $1.50 off that purchase rather than just $0.50!}  This coupon offer is available while supplies last, from 3/27-4/17.  You can get your soda coupon here

  1. What a cute family photo! I haven’t tried these TEN sodas yet. I think that they sound tasty! I am hooked on Diet Coke so I should try these.

  2. You have a beautiful family! I haven’t tried the sodas because I rarely drink soda. I’ve seen a lot of their commercials though and am going to print the coupon so I can have a treat. It’s been over 19 years since I’ve had a baby so honestly I can’t remember if I had any post preg problems (except lack of sleep) LOL.

    Can you believe I do not drink soda. Like – at all. I dont stand the carbonation LOL I DO occasionally like a Sunkist – but I shake it up and let all of the fizz out LOL

      After I worked at a camp one summer where I only drank water and milk I was disgusted by soda. I remember having a soda at Arbys right after and choking on the fizz. I finally drank it long enough that I liked it again. I don’t know why I did that. lol

    I’m sure that your doctor is right. 🙂 But, with 2 of my pregnancies, I had weird problems that I initially wrote off as hormones and lack of sleep. I had vision problems, numbness and tingling, and then much more serious memory problems like forgetting what letters were and forgetting my children’s names. I had extensive testing with many specialists and the conclusion was probably Migraine auras, but possibly mini-strokes. If you ever have any more episodes, please make sure you get checked for those too. Both can cause a lot of problems and I was told that women who had them with one pregnancy had much higher chances of it all happening again.

    Anyway, I’m so glad you’re OK. 🙂 And I had no idea that these TEN sodas were available. I love sodas for a treat from time to time and will definitely look for these!

      Yes, the official diagnosis involved migraines and the doctor said the auras were what was messing with my vision. For the life of me I can’t remember why he said caffeine would help…but I’m glad it did!

  5. We tried another one of the TEN sodas and loved it! So weird that pop helped, but YEAH!

  6. How scary! Stupid hormones. We can’t live with them and can’t live without them.

  7. Jennifer H says

    Yep, they taste the same to me and save me a whole lotta calories!

  8. I haven’t tried them yet. Glad you found something to help that was so simple. I wonder what benefit the caffeine was having.

  9. I am not a big soda drinker, so I haven’t tried these – but 10 calories!? CRAZY!

  10. Nicole Brady says

    I didn’t know hormones could mess up your vision. That’s interesting! I’ve tried some of the Ten products and liked them.

  11. I haven’t tried these yet, but I love Diet Dr. Pepper…so I;m sure I would enjoy the Ten version.

  12. Wow, that’s crazy about your vision! I am still dealing with poor eyesight from my pregnancy, but nothing like that!

  13. Do they have corn syrup or what is the sweetner?

  14. SavvyMomNYC - Ker says

    Thanks for the coupon. Haven’t tried yet.

  15. I haven’t had pop in 2 years! I miss the bubbles but I just haven’t had an interest in drinking it. That said… I used to love Sunkist!

  16. I haven’t seen these yet. I will be keeping my eye out to try them.

  17. i don’t drink a lot of soda but I like the option of a better for me option with the low calories
