How to Grieve for the Loss of a Loved One

Grief is a natural part of coping with the loss of a loved one.  However, it is usually not considered the most pleasant of emotions, but it is a natural part of living.  When your loved one passes, it is generally a difficult time for everyone involved.  If you are looking for guidance, here are ways to grieve for the loss of a loved one.

Allow Yourself to Grieve

You should not suppress your emotions.  Suppression is the cause of grave mental stress, depression, and anxiety.  Some people have a natural reaction to ignore the negative feelings they have, but avoid this at all costs—your unprocessed emotions will find a way to haunt you somehow.  When people do not go through the healthy process of grief and sorrow, they fall into self-destructive paths.  Those who do not process their grief will likely fall into a deep depression, and have the capacity to trigger alcoholism, impulsive gambling or shopping habits, and other excessive behaviors.  While it does not come naturally to everyone, allow yourself space to feel.

Express Your Grief

People often confuse grief with mourning.  Mourning is the act of publicly displaying grief, such as in older traditions when women would where black to mourn their deceased husbands for a period of mourning.  However, grief and mourning are quite different.  Grief is the feeling of sorrow, and it does not have to be displayed publicly.  If you are someone who does not like to wear their emotions on their sleeve, consider a private way of expressing your sorrow.  There are many ways in which you can relieve yourself of sorrow that are healthy and constructive, and exclusive to yourself.

For example, you may want to try to write a letter. If you lacked closure with your loved one, write a letter to them expressing how you feel.  It can be filled with whatever you need to say, and you can write it and rewrite it as much as you need.  After you write the letter, you may feel like you have purged a lot of the negativity out of you for some release.  If you enjoy expressing yourself in writing, then this may be the right option for you.

Likewise, if you are a musician or artist, try creating work that expresses your sorrow.  Compose a song, a poem, or paint a picture that allows you to release some of your feelings.  Creative outlets can prove to be extremely beneficial for times of grief.

Go About Your Daily Routine

While the loss of a loved one may make you feel a desperate urge to find time inside your home for days or weeks on end, there comes a time when you must get back into a routine.  You may need more time to grieve, but going through a daily routine will help put you back on your feet.  Establish your daily schedule.  Find a good time of day to go to the gym, and make sure you continue to eat regular meals.  Even if it feels difficult, urge yourself to continue to go to work every day.  After a period of time, you will be grateful that you stuck to a routine. Regular exercise, for instance, is excellent to keep your body and mind healthy.  Instead of emotionally disintegrating on the couch at home, get active at a local gym.  Increased circulation through cardio stimulates pleasure centers of the brain and acts as the catalyst for releasing hormones such as endorphins, which elevate mood.  Improved diet will keep your immune system up, which can weaken during bouts of depression.  Decreased intake in artificial sugars will prevent inflammation in joints, headaches, and acne.  Meals packed with vitamins, minerals, and proteins will keep your body active and strong, which will in turn create a stronger and healthier mind.

Discuss Any Financial Matters Openly

When your loved one passes, the last thing you may want to think about is money.  However, it is important that you discuss the financial matters of a funeral service with your family, to prevent the burden of even more stress in your life.  Opt for funeral financing like the plans available from www.burialinsurance.org so that he or she gets the service they desire, and so that you can grieve for your loved one without the added stress of finances on your mind.

Losing a loved one is a horrible thing to go through but certain steps can help ease the decisions made during the difficult time.

Proud On TV logo

Have you ever wanted to share a cute home video with just your friends and family but weren’t sure how to do it?  If so, I have a solution for you that doesn’t include complicated sharing/viewing options.  I want to introduce you to ProudOn TV.

I was recently introduced to this and it has revolutionized the way I share personal videos.  I use to like to share some videos of my daughter with everyone so I use to put them on YouTube.  You can check out my daughter’s own version of Rock-a-Bye Baby here, watch her practically inhaling cheese here, and watch her finding the joy of face planting into our dog’s bed.  However, I just found out yesterday that there is a service online that will allow you to copy a YouTube video with just a few clicks.  I don’t want anyone downloading videos of my daughter!! I’m not comfortable with that.

I know some people share videos on Facebook but I’m not confident I have my Facebook privacy settings as secure as I want them to be.  Plus, did you know that if you use Facebook to share videos with your family even with the privacy set strictly for friends or family it takes only one share of your content by any member in order for it to go public?  That’s a creepy thought!

There are two different paths you can take when signing up for a ProudOn TV channel.  One is the Family Website which is strictly private, which means that the only people who can gain access to it are those who you sent a private invitation code to through email or Facebook.

The second option you can choose is called a Portfolio Website.  This is designed to be an extension of a blog.  It’s a fun way to showcase your professional videos.  Check out the demo of the Portfolio Video Website for a real example of how it’s used by Mr. Otto Petersen, Creative Director of CBS!

No matter which site you choose, you have the option to fully customize your site to suite your tastes.

I signed up in a matter of minutes.  Here’s the picture of my website confirmation.  Do you see the chat box in the lower right hand corner of that image?  I love that!  I haven’t had to use it yet but I like the idea of having a support team ready to help me.  If I had issues with Facebook or YouTube I wouldn’t know where to begin to get help.

ProudOn TV Themes

Check out all of the different template options there are!  I can also change the background image to any image or color I want.

ProudOn TV

Here’s my site with the basic design I chose and the demo videos available to watch.  I’m excited to upload my next cute home video and share it with my friends and family in this safe environment.

ProudOn TV is absolutely free to use *BUT* I have an exclusive coupon code that will give you $60 in ProudOn TV credit so you can get extras (added storage or extended traffic plans) later on down the road. How great is that?!

ProudOn TV is a free, private video website where you can share your personal family experiences online through audiovisuals with an audience that YOU select!

ProudOn TV is very easy to use and has a fully customizable design to suit everyone’s tastes, which provides a fun and sentimental experience for all involved. Check out this page on how to sign up and then go here to open up an account using this special offer from ProudOn TV: FAMILYWEB2

Signing up today using this special code automatically gets you $60.00 in credit on your ProudOn TV account, which may be used towards a future increase in data storage or an extended traffic plan.  Enjoy!!

Make Money Selling at Bookstores

Make Money Selling at Bookstores

Bookstores Aren’t Just for Books

When you are ready to leave college or move, you may end up with that giant pile of books that you are not going to move with you. While these books mean nothing to you anymore (in fact, some of your college books you may want to burn), that doesn’t mean that they aren’t worth anything at all. Selling items back to book stores is a great way to recoup a bit of your initial cost and cut down on your moving load. However, bookstores do not just take books anymore. These days almost all media is up for grabs at your local book store.

DVDs

You know those Dragon Ball Z DVDs that you hid in the closet lest someone notice them? They may actually be worth some money on resale for either brick and mortar or online book stores. Some sites have an app that will allow you to scan your DVDs and then give you an offer to purchase them. In much the same way, you can load up your car with some used DVDs and head over to have someone look them over. Typically these sorts of sales do not make you more than a few pennies on the dollar, however, twenty dollars that you can use for lunch isn’t that bad. And it’s twenty dollars that you didn’t have before you sold your DVDs. Be careful, however, with online offers. Some sites only pay you in points that you have to then use at that particular retailer.

Cassette Tapes

Yes, Ace of Base could be worth something. If you’re moving for the first time or cleaning out your basement, you may locate old cassette tapes. These are not used often anymore, though some music fanatics, artists, and collectors will pay good money for them. Looking for collectors can be very tedious and time consuming. Also, if you have used the tapes then their actual trade value will be vastly diminished. You cannot sell many cassettes without original cases, art, and sometimes still wrapped. This means that the cassette case in your basement isn’t exactly a gold mine. However, many different stores will accept them on trade. It’s important to remember that when you are trading things at stores like this that you realize you won’t be getting top dollar for these items. Instead you will be getting an undercut of what they would be able to sell the items for. However, there’s not much else that most people would do with them, so it is worth the shot.

Computers

Check with your local book seller when you’re upgrading to a new computer. Many times these stores will have resale programs or work with charities that give people computers for work or school. While this option is not going to net you any major profits, it’s a good gesture and will help someone out. It’s very difficult to apply for jobs, net interviews, and even go to college these days without a computer. By giving yours away to someone less fortunate you’re allowing them access to new possibilities that they didn’t have before.

Earn Cash with Qmee by Searching Online

This is a sponsored post written on behalf of Qmee. While I was compensated for this post, the thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are completely my own and I was already a fan of Qmee before I was contacted to write this post.

If you’re like me you like to add all the change to your bank account that you can.  Am I right?  What if I told you that you could add a little extra change each month by doing what you are already doing?  You would be a little skeptical and I don’t blame you!  I was in your shoes a few months ago when a blogging friend told me about this exact same thing.

If you ever use a search engine this is for you!  Qmee.com has a program that allows you to rake in change just by clicking on their links in your search results.  Unlike other similar search engine services you don’t get points that you can redeem for other items, Qmee gives you cold hard cash!  Well, change really but it adds up to cash.  Also, unlike other services that require you to go to their site to search and then they replace your search results entirely Qmee comes along side your search results.  That’s right, no matter if you’re searching on Google or Bing or Yahoo…Qmee brings an additional few options to click on to the left of your screen.  If you choose not to click on one of their links, no harm.  If you choose to click on one of their links you’ll make a little money.  The results even have beneath them how much you’ll make from clicking each link.  Talk about transparency!

I use Chrome because it’s my absolute favorite browser but I’ll save those reasons for another day.  On Chrome I had the option of adding the Qmee app/plugin to my Chrome toolbar.  It took just a few seconds to join and I’ve been making steady money every month since.  Not a second income, mind you, but a few dollars.

Here’s an example where I could have earned $0.06 when I searched for Toddler Clothes {my little one really needs summer clothes!}.  You can see that it shows my Google results to the right and the Qmee results to the left.  Neat and tidy and not intrusive at all.  {You can also see that I’ve been to Zulily lately! I truly love them!}

Qmee

If you want to check how much money you’ve accumulated in your Qmee piggybank you can visit Qmee.com and log into your account or you quickly click on the Qmee Q in your toolbar and see your piggybank balance that way.

If you’re a charitable person and would rather donate your earnings to a charity you can do so simply online without having to withdraw your money and write a check to donate.  They make it simple for you!  There is a long list of charities you can chose from but if your favorite charity isn’t on the list you can reach out to them to see if they can work on adding that charity.

Oh, there is one more thing!  You will need a Paypal account in order to get paid…unless you decide to donate your earnings.  I think that’s it!  Qmee is still pretty new and is in Beta mode so you’ll need an invite to join.  Lucky for you, you know a fabulous blogger who has a whole bunch of Qmee invites to hand out!  These invites are available on a first come, first serve basis but don’t worry if you don’t get one you can request to join and they’ll send you an invite when they have them available.

Sign up for Qmee Beta.

If you’ve already signed up, please leave me a comment below to tell others what you think of it!

National Boys and Girls Club Week

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Boys and girls club

I’ve wrote about the Boys & Girls Club in the past because I love what they do!  For quite some time now the Boys & Girls Club have been a safe alternative for kids who don’t have enough structured extracurricular activities.  Instead of the kids running into mischief on the streets or spending time unsupervised at home the Boys & Girls club have given kids a safe place to learn, grow, and belong.  This week is National Boys & Girls Club Week!

This year, the National Boys & Girls Club Week is being celebrated by encouraging everyone to “Open the door.  Take the tour.”  They want everyone to come and see what the Club is about and if it’s right for them.  Local communities will be encouraged to visit their local Club and see what happens behind the blue doors.  If you don’t want to leave your house right now you can take a virtual Club tour.

I’ve taken the virtual tour and loved what I saw.  I’m hoping to soon visit our local Boys & Girls Club to take part in the many activities they have planned.  Anything that increases our activity is a wonderful thing.  Plus, I’ve heard that they have a great swimming program!

If you’re interested in visiting your local Boys & Girls Club, they have a whole lay out of themed events scheduled to show you all of the things they do for children.

The schedule for this year’s celebration includes the following:
• Monday, April 8 – Open the door to education.
• Tuesday, April 9 – Open the door to technology.
• Wednesday, April 10 – Open the door to character and citizenship.
• Thursday, April 11 – Open the door to healthy lifestyles.
• Friday, April 12 – Open the door. Take the tour.

Go here for more information on how you can help support National Boys & Girls Club Week.

You can also connect with Boys & Girls Club of America on Facebook or you can follow them on Twitter @BGCA_Clubs.
