Swagbucks: Get Paid to Search Online
If you are like me, you probably do a lot of searching online. If I need to find a how-to instructional, help spelling a word, a quick math problem, Google is my best friend.
I’ve been a fan of Swagbucks for quite some time now – so long that I can’t honestly remember where I first heard of it. Swagbucks is an awesome online search engine that rewards you for searching online.
At first, I thought “Okay, the gift cards are
probably real but it must take years to get a small one.” I did some investigating and quickly learned that Swagbucks is super simple to sign up for and every blogger I spoke with about it loved them. One told me that they had earned over $100 in gift cards in just four months. I was in, it took me about one minute to sign up. There are no fees, no credit card required, and no phone number or address requested. If I remember correctly they only ask for your name, email, password, zip code, and birth date.
As soon as you sign up you are credited free points to your account (these vary depending on the special they are running, it could be from 3 to 30). When you download the toolbar you earn a few more points. After only 450 points earned, you can get a free $5 Amazon gift card. Or at 1,300 points, you can get a $10 Starbucks gift card. There are dozens of other prizes, too…including PayPal cash!
Now, I’m sure there are some of you thinking, “What’s the big deal if I only earn a $5 or $10 gift card every so often?” Well, you’re right, $10 isn’t that exciting but it’s a start and soon your earnings will be large before you know it. Want to know what I’m planning on buying with my many, many Amazon gift cards? Drum roll please….I’m going to buy fancy pants SLR digital camera for myself for Christmas! I’m very excited because I’ve wanted a good camera for a while but could not imagine spending hundreds on a camera. This feels like free money because I’ve done nothing out of the way to earn it- I would have done searches on Google anyway. For those wondering, I’ve also bought other people Birthday, Baby Shower, & Christmas gifts from my Swagbucks account, I’m not greedy with my bucks. 🙂
Want to know another way to earn Swagbucks? This is one that I haven’t taken advantage of before now. Tell others about Swagbucks! Surely you know other people who search the internet. Send them your referral link, and you’ll not only instantly receive points when they sign up but you’ll also earn points for the searching they do online. How crazy is that?
Well, sign up with me and then go and tell everyone you know about Swagbucks and soon you’ll be on your way to funding your entire Christmas budget with free gift cards from Swagbucks. Now that is something to get excited about!
For those of you who have a blog or a Facebook page you’ll especially want to share your referral link there.
Let’s review, Swagbucks…
– Is Free.
– Won’t rob you of your time.
– Could generate a nice stream of free gift cards for you.
So what are you waiting for? Go sign up for Swagbucks today! 🙂

Calling Corporate
If you have a problem or issue with a store the best thing you can do is to call their main office (I recommend this only after you allow the manager to call corporate while you wait). It only takes a few minutes to file a complaint but it can save you some headaches in the future. Chances are it will take you less time to call the corporate office than you would spend arguing with cashier and store manager every time you go in that store.
What should you call about:
Any “new policy” that is completely different from what you know has been the policy in the past.
- “We can’t accept internet printed coupons”
- “We can’t stack a store coupon and manufacturer coupon”
- “We can’t use a coupon with a BOGO sale”
- “We can’t use coupons that cause an item to be free”
- “We can’t double coupons that cause an item to be free”
A cashier or store manager that treats you like a thief for using coupons. *Try hard not to take it personal, they are doing what they think is best.*
Any other good or bad experience. *Good experiences are great to share and will help encourage your store to continue to accept coupons*
You might feel like you are a bother and are wasting their time but trust me, there is a person at that office whose entire job is to answer the phone and take complaints and compliments. You won’t be keeping anyone from their job so don’t worry about that.
If you think you shouldn’t call because someone else will you have to realize that the more people who call and complain the more likely it will be that action will be taken to solve the problem.
What do you need:
Before you call get your store number or location handy (usually found on your receipt). This is needed for whether you call with a complaint or compliment.
If you are calling about a particular coupon they wouldn’t accept have it handy and be prepared to tell where you obtained the coupon.
If you are calling about a particular product have the item handy as they will need numbers printed on it.
If you have a compliment or complaint about a specific person then knowing their name should help.

5 Ways That Being Eco-Friendly Around the House Can Save You Money *Guest Post*
Being eco-friendly is not just about recycling and toting around reusable grocery bags though these are great, easy ways to be more green. Helping the environment can actually help your wallet as well. With these green actions and adjustments around the house, you can effectively lower your electricity and water bills as well as save on other general expenses.
1. Turn off the lights when you leave the room. Electricity bills are typically one of the highest bills a household gets each month. Turning off the lights when you leave the room as well as turning off any appliances and electronics that are not in use are easy ways to help you conserve energy. Electricity generation is also a big source of pollution because many energy companies still rely on burning coal to provide energy for homes and businesses. By actively making sure that you are not wasting any electricity, you will simultaneously cut down on the amount of pollution created as well as cut down on your electricity bill.
2. Make the switch to CFL bulbs. It is true that CFL bulbs, also known as compact fluorescent lamp bulbs, are more expensive than regular incandescent light bulbs. However, when you factor in how much money you save in the long run with CFL bulbs, you will see that these more eco-friendly bulbs actually pay for themselves with the savings you will incur. CFL bulbs typically last up to 15 times longer than a traditional incandescent bulb, and they also have the capability of putting out the same amount of light as a traditional bulb but while using half the energy. In fact, one CFL bulb can save buyers more than $30 in energy costs in its lifetime. If you replace all of the lights in the house with CFL bulbs and make it a habit to turn off the lights when not in use, you could save hundreds of dollars in electricity costs annually.
3. Only do laundry when there is a full load. You may be tempted to throw your favorite shirt into the wash by itself when you accidentally get some unsightly stains on it, but consider spot-cleaning it and waiting until you are ready to toss an entire load of laundry into the machine before washing it. A washing machine and dryer use up tremendous amounts of energy, so it is more eco-friendly to maximize the use of these machines by only turning them on when there is a full load to wash. When you do fewer loads of laundry, you will cut down on your water and electricity bills as well as your carbon footprint.
4. Make the switch to low-flow and aerating faucets. Just like the CFL bulbs, the initial purchase cost of a low-flow and aerating faucet would be offset by the savings you would incur with use. These faucet heads pump air into the water coming out of the faucet so that you would still experience plenty of water pressure, but with less water usage. When you consider that a single five-minute shower can use up approximately 40 gallons of water, it is easy to see why using less water for day-to-day activities is crucial. By using low-flow and aerating faucets and showerheads, you can help conserve water as well as reduce your water bill.
5. Replace paper napkins with cloth ones and disposable dishes and silverware with reusable ones. It can be tempting to use paper plates and plastic disposable forks and spoons if you hate doing the dishes, but all of that garbage getting tossed out at the end of each meal is bad for the environment. Paper napkins are ill-advised as well for the same reason. When you switch to cloth napkins and reusable dinnerware, you dramatically reduce the amount of garbage you will produce. Though initially purchasing a good dinner set and napkins would be more expensive than purchasing disposable items, you will also never need to buy these items again, unlike the constant need to refill and replace disposable ones. Coupled with fewer washing machine loads and a low-flow faucet, cleaning your reusable items will also still be environmentally friendly.

Are eco-friendly or just want to save money? Do you agree with Angelita’s list or do you have a few suggestions to add to it? I would love to hear your opinions!
KraftMaid: Define Your Style
While our kitchen is a nice size with, not huge but nice for us, it could certainly use a make over. I would love for someone to rip down the wallpaper and paint it a lovely shade of blue. As much as I would love this done I can’t force myself to undergo such a huge project. Who knows, maybe maroon and hunter green will come back in style someday?
I would also love to have darker cabinets. Ours our nice and simple but I would just like the color to be a little warmer. Friends of ours have taken the painstaking job of refinishing theirs and wish they had never started. It has taken them months and although the finished product looks awesome I don’t want to commit that much time to my cabinets. I’ve thought about replacing them but figured the cost would be astronomical. Surprisingly, KraftMaid cabinets (which are sold at Home Depot and Lowes) are affordable. While I may not go in and buy new cabinets right away it’s fun to imagine which ones I would get and maybe start saving for new ones someday.
Speaking of dreaming and imagining my kitchen remodeled, I just heard word that KraftMaid has recently launched an online inspiration board tool. This fancy tool helps normal homeowners, like you and I, bring their dream kitchen to life at a fraction of the cost of custom cabinets. To make things even better, KraftMaid also launched their latest collection of cabinets, cabinet doors, hardware, and bathroom fixtures. Can it get any better? Yes! They are also hosting their “Define Your Style” contest, where you have the opportunity to win a $50,000 kitchen remodel!!! To enter all you need to do is create and share your style using the KraftMaid inspiration board tool. I think it sounds like fun!
