Hasbro has given its Monopoly game a giant technological edge with the launch of the online MMO Monopoly City Streets, which goes online today!
I love Monopoly. It holds a special place in my heart, not only because it was a childhood favorite but also because it was the game my husband and I played on our first date. Monopoly always brings back fond memories. Needless to say, I’m thrilled to try out Monopoly City Streets.
Hasbro describes this free game as “the biggest game of Monopoly of all time.” It is based on Google Maps and allows players to vie for control for every real-life street included on Google’s servers, according to the BBC. How cool is that?
New players are given 3m Monopoly Dollars with which to begin building their empire. Once streets are purchased players are then able to charge rent, construct new buildings and trade with other players.
Much like the beloved board game, Chance Cards will also be available. For example you can sabotage a rival’s properties by dumping rubbish on them. : )
It’s all scheduled to run for four months, servers are currently due to close January 31, 2010.
You can see what it’s all about here – although it may be slow to load due to the high volume of traffic it will be receiving today. Enjoy!
